Happy Birthday to Us!

Hi Folks:

Well, today marks our blog’s 5th Birthday! We’ll be toddling off to Kindergarten soon, although we’ll have to maneuver the process of registration with the local school boards… maybe something online instead… Hmmm… 🙂

Anyway, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you, our readers for continuing to drop by our little corner of the ‘net, for your shares and your wonderful comments. You’re the reason we write this stuff, after all! In the past 5 years we’ve had nearly 78,000 sessions, with over 110,000 page views from people in 177 countries. That may be small by some standards, but it’s absolutely incredible to Us!

Above all, thanks for you! Creare diem!!

Hugs,
M&M

Happy Birthday to Us!

(we didn’t actually buy a cake for our blog’s birthday – young’uns and too much sugar, you know – so I had to borrow an image from one of Marcia’s)

Hi Folks:

It’s our Birthday!  Actually, technically our blog’s birthday was yesterday, but yesterday was also the Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa Claus Parade downtown and one should never pass up the chance for free hot chocolate.  It’s important to set priorities… 🙂

We’re now four years old, and WordPress tells us we have (cue drum roll)… 404 blog posts and 137 pages to read.  Wow.  But enough about us!  Today we want to give thanks for you, our readers.  Thank you for your visits, your referrals, your comments, and most of all, thanks for continuing to drop by and visit our little corner of the ‘net!  You are much appreciated!!

Hugs,
Marcia and Mike.

P.S. And thanks to our grandsons (and their mom) for the use of their birthday banner.  You totally rocked it!!

Greeting Cards

Hi Folks:

As often happens with our posts, this one begins with a seemingly unrelated mish-mash of ideas that will hopefully find some confluence by the time I’m finished writing (and Marcia’s had a a chance to proofread it).  We’ll see!

To start with, today is Marcia’s Dad’s birthday.  He’s 90 years young today, and although he may not be quite as spry as he was in 1933 for example, he’s still quite vivacious and certainly not done with life!

The next thread in this post is our friend Bob.  Bob is an photographer.  An analog photographer.  Yes, that means he uses film.  He’s not adverse to digital and he does scan his work when required, but he’s in love with printing, with the feel of a photographic print.  While 99% or more of images today are seen on some form of electronic device, Bob maintains that there’s there’s something lacking in not being able to hold a print in your hands, feel the texture of the paper, to hold something ‘real’.  I don’t print much of my work, but I agree with him.  I read a post recently about another photographer, David Duchemin, who makes prints of some of his recent work and then leaves them for others to find.  He leaves them in coffee shops, on benches, wherever, and he has no knowledge or control of what happens to them after he walks away.  That, however, is the whole point, and I like the idea so much I’ve been giving serious thought to adopting it. Creating Connections…

Hi Folks:

Today is our blog’s third birthday, so happy birthday to us!!  We originally opened our doorway on this little corner of the ‘net as a place to share ideas, thoughts and feelings and to create connections with others, so ‘Creating Connections’ seemed like an apt title for today’s post.

Eating Our Way Through Victoria… Celebrations!

Hi Folks:

Well, last Saturday was Marcia’s birthday and since she was off on both Friday and Saturday we (I) expanded her birthday celebration into a two-day event.  Fortunately Marcia was willing to go along with my schemes!  Before I continue, I should add a little backstory…

Back in 1995 we shared our first two-bedroom apartment together.  For Marcia’s birthday I invited a ‘few’ friends for a pot-luck surprise party and we managed to pack 37 people into our little apartment!  Everyone had a great time, including Marcia, but she also casually mentioned that she’d kill me if I ever did it again.  Well, since we no longer live there, and keeping to the ‘letter of the law’ so to speak, here’s a quick summary of some of the things we undertook over our weekend.  It also highlights some of the reasons we love living here in Victoria! It’s Our Birthday!!

Hi Folks:

Happy 2nd birthday to our blog!  Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the US, it seemed appropriate to offer some thanks here as well.  After all, we have a lot to be thankful for.  So, in no particular order:

We Give Thanks for You: While this little corner of the ‘net is our own window on the wider world, it wouldn’t mean much without you, our readers.  You’re really the reason we’re here!  Both of us are writers, but a writer without an audience speaks only to himself, or herself as the case may be.  According to Google Analytics, in the past 2 years we’ve had nearly 40,000 page views from over 15,000 different people.  That may be small by some standards, but we’re both amazed and delighted by your continued presence!

We Give Thanks for Family: Together we have the usual number of parents and an ever-increasing number of relations, from sisters and brothers to nieces, nephews and beyond.  We have two wonderful sons, and two wonderful nieces who are like daughters.  We also have two grandsons and one great-nephew who counts as a grandson too.  The little ones bring such joy to our lives!  There’s a saying that one can choose one’s friends but not one’s family; even if we could we’d stick with the ones we have!  Special thanks goes out to our son Nick, not only because starting this blog was his idea to begin with, but because he continues to do a lot of the ‘behind the scenes’ technical support for us.

We Give Thanks for ‘Family’:  Ever since the invention of Facebook, the words ‘Friend’ and ‘Like’ will never be the same again.  Nonetheless, our connection to others around the world through Twitter, Google+ and several forums has opened doors for us that would be possible in no other way.  Because of that we’ve made ‘friends’ with some remarkable people!  We give thanks for your presence in our lives!

We Give Thanks for Each Other: A few days ago we celebrated our 225th Monthaversary of the day we met.  Earlier this month we celebrated our 17th Anniversary of being a couple, and last month we celebrated our 9th Anniversary of being married.  In truth, we celebrate every day together.  We are both truly blessed to have each other, and we acknowledge it in every way we can.  In the movie ’50 First Dates’, Drew Barrymore plays a woman who is incapable of making new memories, and Adam Sandler plays a man who devotes himself to having her fall in love with him every day.  We treasure all of the memories we have, but it’s easy to say we fall in love with each other every day. 😀

And with that, we thank you for coming by; we’re serving (virtual) coffee and cake (two candles ¡¡ ) in the living room!!

Hugs,
M&M

It’s Our Birthday!

Well, as of about two hours ago, we bounced out into the electronic world, screaming loudly as the electrons filled our collective lungs…

“Now what?” you ask?  Good question!  Really makes us wish we had an answer…  As with any sentient being we’ll learn to feed ourselves, learn to ‘walk’ (should we let our fingers do the walking?) and talk and… which button changes the diapers?  Oh well.  We’ll figure it out as we go along.

So, thank you for being patient with us as we begin to navigate our way through this new world of ours.  We’re looking forward to the adventure, and trust you are too!

Marcia and Mike.
