Hello Dear Ones!
As Earth Days go – and now as Earth Weeks go as well - our city offered a terrific representation of various facets of what being green, going green, loving the Earth Mother, and caring for our planet is all about. There was fun, laughter, music and dancing in the streets – including moi (yours truly) who danced more in one afternoon than I have in the past 10 years of this decade! My muscles are still talking to me!
Yes, there were those present who chose to use this venue as a platform for political gain, others who used it for complaint and expressions of doom and gloom. Fortunately they were few and their voices less vocal than those who had so much to celebrate.
The Earth Day Network website for 2010 had this to say: “While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents the greatest opportunity – an unprecedented opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future.
Earth Day 2010 can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Earth Day Network is galvanizing millions who make personal commitments to sustainability. Earth Day 2010 is a pivotal opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day.“
Wise and very possible.
Yet I would add something more here. I am one who honours and delights in living my life moment by moment and being in the NOW – very Eckhart Tolle of me! If every April 22nd is Earth Day (and for many cities the Day has been expanded to be an Earth Week), living in the NOW (since I have only this moment…and now this moment…and now this moment…) then in each moment of every day of every year, is it not wise, then, for me to be respectful to the Earth, my home? Honouring the earth herself, her resources, animals (including birds, fish, mammals, etc), plants, people, and the very planet upon which I live is something that I have a responsibility to undertake with each thought, each action, even with each breath I take.
If I take responsibility and you take responsibility and those with whom each of us interacts all do the same, the speed of change on this planet will reach astronomical proportions in very short order and the balance can and will return.
An idyllic thought? Is it really? Think a moment about your home: the love and care you put into its cleanliness, its upkeep, its landscaping, the nurture and nature of its support and comfort for you and your family. If each of us extends that loving attention out beyond our immediate and personal lives to the world around us, then the earth could become an expression of our own loving and caring selves bridged across the miles and the continents.
One moment and a fresh new step with each breath …
My $0.02 worth with the most loving intention.
In Light and Laughter,
Marcia
